Devlog #3: Getting to know the Jack and King

Today was a bit busy, but I still managed to reasonably finish what I set out to do yesterday. I sat down and quickly cranked out a short paragraph description of the events of the story as I thought of them. Once I'd done that, I looked over it, and then began making a bulleted timeline of events to further expand on what I had written. It's not perfect or all-encompassing yet, but I think I have a pretty decent start to work off of. I also wrote character descriptions for the Jack and the King (real names withheld), as well as a list of the contents of their room.

I'm feeling good about things so far. The story is still rough around the edges but I can see the potential for something actually not half bad in there. It also gave me the opportunity to think more on the relationships between all the characters in my story, the effect that each of them have on each other. Even as I was figuring out what important items to list in their room contents, it just seemed natural to incorporate items that came from the other characters among ones from the Jack and King themselves. I'll likely revisit them and make slight changes, but I now have a decent idea of what I'll need to look for once it's time to start building rooms.

So, for next time, I plan to:

  • Write descriptions for the Ace and the Queen. This shouldn't be too hard with the groundwork I've already laid.
  • Continue to work on story

After that I believe that Phase 1 will more or less be finished, which means we may be moving into Phase 2 very soon. Until then.
